The Cockscomb is one of Sedona’s many interesting rock formations, and this hike shows it off while also taking you past Doe Mountain. It’s a fairly low-key trip, but you’ll still have excellent views of the iconic red rocks that Sedona is known for. This hike begins from the Bear Mountain Trailhead. While hikers headed for Bear Mountain will cross the street, you’ll want to take the trail on this side of the road. Take Aerie Trail and head towards the edge of the mesa on a route lined by juniper, agave, and yucca. If you want to add in a climb of Doe Mountain, take a left where the switchbacks start. If not, continue on, crossing Aerie Road and heading towards The Cockscomb. You’ll pass the northern side of it before taking a left onto Cockscomb Trail. Take Cockscomb Trail back towards Doe Mountain, staying left at the 4-way junction. This will take you back to the trailhead.

The Cockscomb Loop is a 5.4mi hike in Sedona that takes you around Doe Mountain to the base of The Cockscomb, one of Sedona’s unique rock formations. This hike is on the easier side of moderate with a gentle elevation gain. You could easily add an ascent of Doe Mountain if you wanted to make it a more challenging adventure. Expect heavy traffic on this route.
