Setting out from the Pettit Creek Trailhead, the Yellow Belly Lake via Pettit Lake Hike travels westward, nearing the lakeshore. Soon after your departure, you will encounter an intersection, turn right here, and you will be diverted onto the Pettit Lake Cutoff. Beyond this point, the incline will intensify, demanding a steep ascent up a forested ridge up to a lovely little pond. Rest here before beginning the descent towards Yellow Belly Lake. Made more manageable with switchbacks, the trail will additionally deliver you to a junction near McDonald Lake.
Here, turn right on the Yellow Belly Lake Trail, which will lead you to the shoreline. Take off your shoes and rejuvenate your tired feet in the chilly alpine waters and admire the beauty of the mountainous landscape. When you are through exploring the lake, head back along the path the way you came to the trailhead.
