Lonesome Lake Trail Description

Immerse yourself deep into the alpine wilderness along the Lonesome Lake Trail—this epic hike will undeniably impress all of its adventurers with its dense pine forests and vibrant aspen groves. Open year-round, this versatile trek can be enjoyed in the winter alike; just strap on a pair of snowshoes. Note you will be traveling deep into the woodlands, so be mindful of wildlife, and consider wearing a bear bell if you are nervous about an unwelcome encounter.

Begin your journey along the Lonesome Lake Trail from the trailhead off Homestake Road. From here, track south along the Lonesome Lake Trail through the woodlands and along a gurgling creek. Enjoy the sounds of the wind whistling through the trees and let the sounds lull you into a state of tranquility. Weaving between meadowlands and tree shade, you will be granted sparse views of the encompassing snow-capped peaks, which serve as great motivation.

Follow along the path, and you will eventually meet Lonesome Lake, a charming body of water flanked by craggy cliffs and sparse evergreens. Rejuvenate your tired feet in the chilly waters and admire the awe-inspiring views. When you are ready to return, simply retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
