Otis Peak Hike Description

The Otis Peak Trail is an epic summit adventure. Ascend the picturesque, but technical terrain to the Otis Peak, which overlooks the diverse wilderness below. Even if you crave an adrenaline rush, this route should only be attempted by experienced hikers equipped with proper gear. As you will be ascending high altitudes, it is imperative you check the forecast to avoid getting caught in an afternoon storm. Microspikes are also necessary as you climb up the glacier to the snow-dusted summit. As this path is located within the Rocky Mountain National Park, a pass is required to venture the trails.

Embark on your journey to Otis Peak from the Bear Lake Trailhead. From here, track the Connector Trail over Chaos Creek and merge onto the Glacier Gorge Trail. Hike the Glacier Gorge Trail past Alberta Falls and around the Glacier Knobs. After passing the Glacier Knobs, take a left at the intersection and trek up to The Loch Lake. Hike along the shore of the crystalline lake and at the next junction, keep right. Ascent the rocky terrain to Andrews Tam. From the small alpine lake, you will have to blaze your own trail up Andrews Glacier.

Ascend the technical terrain and ascend the ridge. From here, trek north along the saddle to the summit of Otis Peak. From atop the summit enjoy the panoramic, 360-degree mountainous views. Rest and recover before beginning your descent. When you are ready, retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
