Earthquake Trail

The Earthquake Trail is a quick nature walk that boasts the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs and learn more about the Californian coast. Wander through meadows and woodlands abundant with wildflowers and mushrooms. Accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, this trail can be enjoyed by adventurers of all ages, skills, and ability levels! Head out in the early morning for a more tranquil experience.

The Earthquake Trail departs from the Bear Valley Picnic Area. From here, follow the Earthquake Trail east. You will confront an intersection soon after your departure. Here, you can choose to complete the circuit from either direction, but we chose to head clockwise. Turning left, the path will guide you deeper into the wilderness along the route lined with interpretive signs. Take the time to read the signs and learn more about the geology of the San Andreas Fault.

Hike around the loop, and when you reconnect with the initial intersection, keep left and retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
