Bass Lake Hike Description
The Bass Lake Trail would make a great addition to anyone’s hiking itinerary. Offering coastal views and a place to cool off, this route is best ventured in the summer months! Children and adults alike will enjoy swinging on the rope into the lake and exploring the shoreline. Take a picnic and spend the day if you please! Note that this area is highly trafficked as the trail is also used to access the Alamere Falls, so expect the company of other adventurers. For this reason, we also encourage you to head out in the morning to secure a spot in the parking lot.
Setting out from the Palomarin Trailhead, the Bass Lake Trail follows the Coast Trail westwardly. The initial segment of the hike travels along the shoreline cliffs—be sure to maintain on the marked path here as the headlands are inherently fragile here. Enjoy the scenes of the dramatic coastline before the route diverts you inland. Now trekking north, the path will lead you up a gradual incline through the forestlands. Eventually, you will reach an intersection with the Bass Lake Trail; turn left here.
The Bass Lake Trail will guide you along the shores of the charming lake. If time and weather permit, take a swim in the refreshing waters and try out the infamous rope swing. After enjoying the waters, head back the way you came all the way to the trailhead.
