Puerco Pueblo Trail Description
The Puerco Pueblo Trail leads you through the only ancestral pueblo village easily accessible by the public in the area. The hike is only about a third of a mile, taking you to each stone wall and petroglyph site in turn. There is also a mini museum halfway around the loop. This site was last occupied 650 years ago, and what remains is fascinating to see.
It’s up to all of us to preserve archeological sites like this for future generations. Remember not to touch the pueblo or the petroglyphs. Take only photos from the site.
Beginning from the parking area, where there are washrooms if needed, the trail travels south towards the pueblo before looping around counterclockwise. Check out the stone walls that still outline the rooms that were here, then look for the petroglyphs around the midpoint of the trail. They depict people, animals, and geographic shapes. Continue around the loop to return to the trailhead when you’re ready.
