Eccles Pike Circular Walk

With spectacular views overlooking the rugged expanse of the Peak District, the Eccles Pike Circular Walk is an exceptional route that features a good variation in terrain, although walkers should take note that a few sections of uphill climbing are fairly steep. Exercise caution in these areas if you are attempting this walk during wet weather conditions. Additionally, the trail is dog friendly; however, you will need to assist your furry friends in climbing over the numerous stiles that can be found along the trail.

Setting out from the trailhead in Buxworth, head west through the Bugsworth Canal Basin and follow along the edge of the Peak Forest Canal until you meet up with the River Goyt. Here, follow the trail south along the river to eventually pass through Whaley Bridge. From the village, head east to climb uphill through the farmlands to reach the summit of Browne Hill. Enjoy the amazing views looking out over the rolling green hills and escarpments of the Peak District before heading southeast on a course for the Combs Reservoir.

After walking along the edge of the tranquil water for a short distance, follow the path as it heads back towards the north and ascends the steep hillside to the summit of Eccles Peak. From here, you will have more of the same spectacular views that sweep across the undulating landscape that is pock-marked with countless villages and farms. After taking in the views, follow the trail to the northeast, where you will eventually arrive back at the Navigation Inn in Buxworth, where you began your outing.
