The Digley Reservoir Circular Walk is an easy-going circuit in the Peak District that will take you around the edge of the reservoir to provide some nice views across its calm waters. This route will take you through some lovely stretches of forest, open areas with views of the surrounding hills, and will likely provide the chance to spot some local wildlife, such as the various bird species that call the area home. The trail is largely flat and well-maintained, save for a few rocky sections, making it suitable for walkers of almost any age and skill level.

Getting there

To reach the car park for the Digley Reservoir Circular Walk from Holmfirth, drive southwest along Huddersfield Road for 0.2mi and turn right onto Greenfield Road. After 1.7mi, turn left onto Green Gate Road and follow it for 0.7mi. Continue straight onto Digley Royd Lane and you will find the car park on the right in 0.2mi.

Digley Reservoir Circular Walk Description

The Digley Reservoir Circular Walk is only a short jaunt around the edge of the water, but that does not mean that it is without its hazards, no matter how minor they might be. Overall, the trail is a fairly flat and easy-going experience; however, there are a few steepish bits that feature some rocky terrain. Make sure to wear decent walking footwear in order to be comfortable on the trail. Additionally, be sure to arrive early in order to secure parking.

Even with the consideration of the slightly steep terrain mentioned above, this walk is a pleasant experience that can be enjoyed by hikers of every age and skill level. While out on the trail you will be treated to some scenic views that stretch out across the calm waters of the reservoir and include a lovely backdrop of rolling green hills, as well as serene stretches of woodland terrain that provide a relaxing atmosphere along the trail. If you are looking for a short and relaxing walking route, then the Digley Reservoir Circular might just be your next adventure.

Setting out from the car park, head south along Digley Royd Lane for 0ft and turn right onto Fieldhead Lane to make your way along the southeast edge of the reservoir. When you have reached the Digley Reservoir South car park, head right and follow the track to the west as it passes through a gate and skirts along the edge of the trees. Enjoy the intermittent views across the reservoir for the next 1ft as you pass through a series of gates and arrive at the dam wall.

Make your way to the other side and follow the path as it bends to the left to pass through a gate. Continue on for 2ft, following the path as it turns back toward the east and passes through a boggy area before traversing a beautiful stretch of woodland terrain and arriving back at the car park.
