The Dennis Knoll Walk is a short route in the Peak District that will take you up a portion of the Stanage Edge for some amazing views overlooking the Derwent Valley. While out on the trail, you will pass through the charming Stanage Plantation and climb the moor to the top of the edge before descending the hillside to walk through picturesque farms. This is a great walk to get acquainted with walking along the rocky escarpment without the hassle of a long distance route.

Getting there

To reach the car park for the Dennis Knoll Walk from Hathersage, head northeast on School Lane for 0.1mi and continue onto The Dale for another 1.5mi. Turn left here and keep on for 0.5mi before turning right. After 0.3mi, make a right turn to enter the car park.

Dennis Knoll Walk Description

Although it is only a quick route, the Dennis Knoll Walk offers a great opportunity for beginners or families to get out and explore the wonderful terrain that the Peak District has to offer. Setting out from the car park, the path heads through the wonderful forest atmosphere of the Stanage Plantation, before climbing up the hillside to the top of Stanage Edge. Once there, you will be able to walk along the rocky and rugged expanse of the escarpment to the north and take in the amazing views of the surrounding Derbyshire landscape. From here, you will descend the hillside and pass through the picturesque countryside, cutting across open stretches of moor and farmland, before crossing Hood Brook on the final leg of the journey back to the car park.
