The Bichen Edge to Chatsworth Walk is a great adventure for walkers that love the outdoors and have interests in historical topics. The trail travels along the escarpment and visits Nelson’s Monument and the Three Ships before heading south through Baslow to arrive at Chatsworth House, the seat of the Duke of Devonshire. The trail features a bit of uphill walking with an elevation gain of 1781ft; however, this isn’t overly strenuous and can be completed by most walkers.
Getting there
To reach the car park for the Birchen Edge to Chatsworth Walk from Baslow, drive southeast on Church Lane for 0.6mi and take the second exit at the roundabout onto A619. After 1.1mi, turn left onto B6050 and the car park will be on the left in 250ft.

Birchen Edge to Chatsworth Walk Description
The Birchen Edge to Chatsworth Walk offers a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with the outdoors while learning a bit about history in the process. The trail sets out from beside the Robin Hood Inn and travels north along Birchen Edge to visit the site of a monument dedicated to Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar. Here, you will also spot the Three Ships, a series of stones resembling ships that have the names of Nelson’s ships carved into them. Continuing along the trail, you will make your way through the village of Baslow on the way to Chatsworth House, where you can gaze out in amazement at the meticulously well-manicured estate that belongs to the Duke of Devonshire and has been in the Cavendish family since 1549. After taking in the views, make your way east to climb uphill through the forests of Bunker’s Hill Wood on the return journey back to the car park where you began.
