Bakewell Trail Description
Walking the Bakewell Circular Walk is a popular activity in this part of Derbyshire due to the ultra-scenic countryside views and well-maintained trail. The route sets out from the town of Bakewell and heads to the northwest along the oft-busy Monsal Trail, a converted railway track that has been turned into a multi-use track. Follow this northwest through the countryside until you arrive in the village of Monsal Head. Once here, you can explore the area a bit before making your way towards the Wye River to view the beautifully constructed Headstone Viaduct.
After taking in the sights of the arched structure, continue west to walk along the River Wye as it cuts through the picturesque setting of Monsal Dale. From here, you will pass through Great Shacklow Wood before branching off to the south and the east to make your way through the charming villages of Sheldon and Over Haddon. At this point, you will need to turn to the northeast to once again cut across the countryside on the return part of the walk back to the trailhead in Bakewell.
