Deep Cove Lookout via Perimeter Trail

Hiking to the Deep Cove Lookout via Perimeter Trail takes hikers along a technical trail that is covered in roots and rocks. During wetter times of the year, the trail can also become fairly muddy, although not any more so than other nearby trails. Additionally, hikers should be aware that the trail follows along Mount Seymour Road for a short stretch, requiring you to cross it twice.

This route doesn’t offer many great views, and those that are present at the lookout are partially obscured by the tree cover. As a result, if beautiful sights are your main priority in choosing a route, then this hike might not make it to the top of your list. That being said, this is still a great hike through the forest that traverses some technical terrain and has access to the network of trails around Goldie and Flower lakes.

Setting out from the trailhead near the parking area, find the trail just behind the washrooms and follow it to the right as it heads south and skirts behind the Three Peaks Lodge and the Alpine Activity Centre. Continue south along the trail until it meets up with Mount Seymour Road, at which point you will cross over to the other side and follow it to the left. Shortly after the bend where the road turns south, you will find the Old Cabin Trail on your left. Turn here to continue on the route to the Deep Cove Lookout.

Follow the Old Cabin Trail as it heads east and passes over a few streams. Shortly before reaching the Scott-Goldie Creek, there will be a junction in the trail. Follow it south for one kilometre to reach the Deep Cove Lookout. After taking in the views, make your way back to the junction and over the creek to your right, continuing on the trail as it winds between the Flower and Goldie lakes. After passing by the lakes, the trail will continue along the Goldie Lake Trail until you end up back at the parking lot.
