Point Dume Cove Trail Description

There is only one real concern with the Point Dume Cove Trail, and that is that it’s simply not long enough! There is a bit of rugged coastal terrain to navigate as well, so make sure that you wear comfortable walking footwear.

Featuring wonderfully scenic views of the ocean, this trail is the perfect accompaniment to a fun afternoon by the beach. Take your time meandering along the paths and gazing out across the vast ocean, before hunkering down on the sandy beach for a few hours of fun in the sun; it doesn’t get much better than this!

Setting out from the Westward Beach parking lot, you will follow the trail as it leads to the southeast and begins climbing slightly uphill. There are a few interconnected paths within the Point Dume Natural Preserve, so you won’t really need to worry about getting lost.

Keeping right along the trail, you will follow along the edge of the rocky bluffs while enjoying the beautiful views across the water. Eventually, the trail will bend to the north and lead you slightly further uphill to arrive at the top of Point Dume.

After taking some time to appreciate the incredible coastal scenery, you will follow the trail that leads northeast toward Big Dune Beach. This is a great place to lay out your towel and spend some time by the water’s edge if you feel so inclined. If you would rather make your way back to the trailhead, simply follow the trail leading over the undulating terrain to the west and you will arrive there in no time, wrapping up your adventure along the Point Dume Cove Trail.
