Getting there

To get to the Balloch Country Park and Whinny Hill Walk, begin in the center of Balloch. Drive northwest on Riverside before taking a left onto Riverside. Continue a short distance before making a right onto Balloch Road. Drive 0.5mi on Balloch Road, then make a left onto Mollanbowie Road. Continue 0.6mi, turn left, then right, then a final left, following signs for Balloch Castle Country Park, where the walk begins.

The Balloch Country Park and Whinny Hill Walk is a great way to combine a scenic country park with an approachable hill climb. The 5.5mi out-and-back-trail begins from the car park of the Balloch Country Park and proceeds through charming woodlands, continuing lochside where you’ll take in gorgeous views on the shoreline of dazzling Loch Lomond. The path then cuts inland from the shoreline and continues uphill with an elevation gain of 755ft. Enjoy views over Loch Lomond before continuing the same route back downhill and through the woods to Balloch Country Park. Following the walk, why not further explore the park grounds, featuring the 19th-century Balloch Castle and an impressive walled garden.
