Difficulty Rating:
The Meall Glas and Sgiath Chuil Walk follows a superb, 9.6mi circular route, beginning at Glen Dochart and exploring the summits of both peaks. From the vantage point of 3281ft+ above, you’ll take incredible views of the surrounding mountains, including Ben More, Ben Lawers, Ben Vorlich and more. The steep slopes of both hills present a challenging ascent, and in sections, the path is boggy and relatively undefined, so this is an ideal walk for somewhat experienced hillwalkers who are prepared with these types of hill conditions.

Meall Glas and Sgiath Chuil Walk Description
The Meall Glas and Sgiath Chuil Walk, which begins just under 5.0mi southeast of Crianlarich, is a spectacular, challenging hillwalk of two lesser-climbed peaks on the northern fringes of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Steep slopes and boggy sections may deter those looking for a leisurely stroll, but those seeking a challenging hillclimb with spectacular views will love this hike!
The walk begins from the A85 and sets out on a tarmac lane headed towards Auchessan. Further on, follow signs for the “hill path,” passing through several gates to reach Allt Riobain. Enjoy the next stretch, which is superbly scenic, with waterfalls peppering the trail. Walk through the sparse woodlands, enjoying the views as they open to Ben More and Glen Dochart. Later you’ll cross the Allt Robain as you head towards the summit of Sgiath Chuil. The views from the summit, marked by a cairn, are sensational, with Ben Lawers dominating the horizon and Ben Vorlich rising further to the right. Follow a broad ridge to reach the bealach before embarking on a steep downhill stretch to Lairig a’Churain, where you’ll continue along the ridge and make your ascent to and climb towards Beinn Cheathaich, which sets you up for a final ascent to Meall Glas. From the summit of Meall Glas, Ben Challum dominates the western view, looking ever so majestic. After
The return route is boggy and heads generally southwards before continuing to descend just east of Creag nan Uan. Continue downhill crossing a stile, and you’ll soon reach a grassy path that continues back down through the woods and eventually behind the Auchessan farmhouse. Regain the outward route and pursue this track to return to the start of the walk.
