The Nab Scar, Heron Pike, and Stone Arthur Circular Walk is a rough and rugged adventure that will see you navigate the undulating terrain of the Lake District for some beautiful views of the surrounding area. While out on the trail, you will climb up the steep hillside and traverse each of these peaks, while taking in the views of nearby lakes and fells. Make sure that you wear proper walking boots, as the terrain in this area is fairly steep and rugged.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Nab Scar, Heron Pike, and Stone Arthur Circular Walk from Ambleside, drive north on Rydal Road for 14.1mi and turn left onto Under Loughrigg. After 125ft, turn right and follow the road for 0.1mi to find the car park on the left.

Nab Scar, Heron Pike, and Stone Arthur Circular Walk Description

Walking the Nab Scar, Heron Pike, and Stone Arthur Circular may be a difficult undertaking that is exposed to the elements; however, the breathtaking views of nearby lakes and fells is enough to make it a popular adventure in the Lake District. The trail sets out from the Rydal Pelter Bridge Car Park and climbs uphill along the steep terrain of Nab Scar to provide a wonderful vantage point overlooking Rydal Water. From here, you will continue north to traverse the summit of Heron Pike before looping around towards Stone Arthur. Here, you will have a great sightline over Grasmere, as you descend the hillside briefly and climb back uphill to the calm setting around Alcock Tarn. Enjoy the final views over the lakes and fells of the surrounding area before making your way back down towards the car park where you started your journey.
