The Loughrigg Terrace Walk is a charming journey that will take you through one of the most scenic areas within the Lake District. While out on the trail, you will cross over the River Rothay and walk the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell, all while taking in some beautifully scenic views overlooking Rydal Water and Grasmere. With well-maintained and easy to navigate trails, this route is perfectly suitable for outdoor enthusiasts of almost every skill level.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Loughrigg Terrace Walk from Ambleside, drive north on Rydal Road/A591 for 2.4mi and turn right to enter the car park.

Loughrigg Terrace Walk Description

While the Loughrigg Terrace Walk might only be a short adventure, the spectacular views across the picturesque Lake District landscape are more than enough to entice walkers of all ages to check out this fun trail. The route sets out from the car park and heads to the south to cross over the River Rothay before starting the gentle climb up the hillside in the direction of Loughrigg Fell. Part way up the hillside, the trail will turn to the west to traverse the lower slopes of the fell, providing some beautifully scenic views of both Rydal Water and Grasmere Lake. After passing through Deerbolts Wood, you will turn back to the east and walk along the shores of the lake, following the trail back across the Rothay River to return to the trailhead where you began your adventure.
