The Loughrigg Fell and Grasmere Walk is a charming adventure in the Lake District that will produce some of the best views that the region has to offer. While out on the trail, you will climb up to the summit of Loughrigg Fell for some breathtaking views before descending the hillside to walk the shores of Grasmere Lake and Rydal Water. This is a great route for casual and seasoned walkers alike.

Getting there

To reach the starting point of the Loughrigg Fell and Grasmere Walk from the Ambleside Rugby Club, drive west on A593 for 470ft and turn left to stay on the road for another 120ft. Make a right onto Under Loughrigg, and follow it for 0.4mi to find parking on the right.

Loughrigg Fell and Grasmere Walk Description

The Loughrigg Fell and Grasmere Walk is a beautifully scenic route that is popular with Lake District Walkers because of the sheer amount of highlights that it will expose you to. The trail begins just outside of Ambleside and initially heads south towards the River Brathay before traversing the rugged and hilly terrain to the northwest on the climb up to the summit of Loughrigg Fell. Here, you will enjoy spectacular views across Lakeland before descending the backside of the fell. At this point, you will walk around the scenic shores of Grasmere Lake and Rydal Water before crossing the open farmland terrain on the return to Ambleside.
