To reach the car park for the Bowness Knott Loop from Ennerdale Bridge, make your way to the east for 2.2mi and turn right here. Follow along this road for another 1.9mi to find the car park on the left.

Bowness Knott Loop Trail Description

The Bowness Knott Loop is a fantastic walking route in the Lake District that is perfectly suited for beginner and casual walkers due to the relatively short distance of the trail, peaceful woodland setting, and the scenic views of Ennerdale Water and the surrounding fells. The trail sets out from the car park and follows the road to the northwest before starting the climb uphill to the summit of Bowness Knott. Here, you will enjoy stunning views across the surface of Ennerdale Water, with Crag Fell in the backdrop and Great Borne behind you to the northeast. Continue along the trail as it takes you east through the Bowness Plantation before crossing smithy beck for the return leg of the walk along the edge of the lake.
