Hampsfell Walk

Walking the Hampsfell Trail is a quick and easy adventure that features laidback terrain and can be completed by walkers of just about any skill level. There is a small amount of elevation gain along the route and climbing to the roof of the hospice building will require you to traverse a set of stairs, but these are more than manageable. Additionally, parking at the layby is very limited. If you are unable to park there, you may need to utilize roadside parking or travel a bit further west to park at the Grange Fell Golf Club.

Setting out from the layby, walk along the road to the north for a short distance and pick up the trail on the left, following it uphill as you traverse the open landscape of the picturesque English countryside. Reaching the top of the hill, you will cross over some rugged terrain and arrive at the site of a hospice that was built in 1846 by the vicar of Cartmel. From here, make your way up to the roof of the building, where you will find a list of sights that dot the surrounding landscape and a viewfinder to help locate them. After taking in the breathtaking sights of the rugged Lake District terrain and the estuary to the south that opens up into the Irish Sea, make your way back down the hill, retracing your steps on the return to your vehicle.
