Ward Lake Loop

For those outdoor enthusiasts who are after a relaxing hiking route by the water’s edge, possibly to combine with a fun weekend of camping out in the Colorado wilderness, the Ward Lake Loop is a fantastic option in the Elk Mountains.

Setting out from the trailhead along Baron Lake Drive, you will make your way to the southeast through some light tree cover, where you will quickly arrive at the shores of Ward Lake. Here, you will make your way around the lake in a clockwise direction, while taking in the scenic views across the water.

After rounding the southwest corner of the lake, you will cross over Ward Creek and arrive at the edge of a lane. Here, you will pass through the campground and continue hiking parallel to the shoreline, eventually arriving back at the trailhead where you began your short adventure.
