The Prospector Trail is a fun hiking adventure near Crested Butte, Colorado that will take you uphill for beautiful views of the East River Valley and the surrounding Elk Mountains. While out on the trail, you will make your way uphill along the ski runs of the Crested Butte Mountain Resort, enjoying the beautiful views of the aspen trees and surrounding landscape before arriving at the endpoint of the route at the Umbrella Bar. The is a great route that offers scenic views and is suitable for nearly all ages and skill levels.

Prospector Trail Description

For those adventurers in Crested Butte that are after a quick and easy hiking route that is close to town and will also provide scenic views for little in the way of effort, the Prospector Trail is a fantastic option. Featuring beautiful views across the valley to the surrounding Elk Mountains, there is no reason why you should put off this fun family adventure.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way across the open terrain to the southeast, before beginning the gentle uphill climb along the lower slope of Crested Butte. Here, you will be utilizing several ski runs that provide an easy to navigate route uphill through the aspen trees.

As you continue to gain elevation, you will enjoy beautifully scenic views overlooking the East River and surrounding peaks, including Teocalli and White Rock Mountains to the northeast. After winding your way up the hillside, you will arrive at the endpoint of the trail at the Umbrella Bar, which is a great place to pause for a quick rest. From here, simply head back down the hillside to return to the trailhead.
