The Schofield Pass to Crystal Mill Hike is a scenic trail in the Elk mOuntains of Colorado that will lead you along a rugged off-road vehicle route to reach an interesting historical site. While out hiking the trail, you will head through Schofield Pass and take in the views of Devil’s Punchbowl Waterfall, before arriving in the small village of Crystal to view an historic mill from 1892. Although this route follows a road, the surface is very rough and rocky, making sturdy hiking boots a necessity.

For those adventurers searching for a rugged hiking route that is still easy to navigate, the Schofield Pass to Crystal Mill Hike will be the perfect option. This trail utilizes a rocky off-road vehicle path, meaning the terrain here will be challenging to traverse but very easy to navigate. The stunning views of the surrounding mountains, waterfalls along the route, and fascinating historical sites also add to the appeal of this fantastic route in the Elk Mountains.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will follow the road to the northwest as it snakes through Schofield Pass and runs parallel to the South Fork Crystal River. Here, you will pass by the Not Devil’s Punchbow waterfall, as well as the actual Devil’s Punchbowl Waterfall and enjoy some scenic views along the river.
Continuing on to the northwest, you will enjoy some beautiful mountain scenery, including the rugged Mineral Point ahead of you to the north.. From here, you will pass through the small village of Crystal, enroute to the historic Crystal Mill, which was constructed in 1892. After exploring this interesting area, you will follow the same route back through Schofield Pass on the return to the trailhead where you began.
