The South West Coast Path: Barnstaple to Westward Ho! is another fun and beautifully scenic, but lengthy trail that will take you along the coast for some stunning views of the Bristol Channel and several other waterways in Devon. While out on the trail, you will make your way from the town of Barnstaple through picturesque coastal terrain and charming seaside villages, as you walk along the water’s edge to arrive in the village of Westward Ho! Unless you are planning on completing the entire South West Coast Path, you will need to pre-arrange a pick up at the end point of the route, as this is a one-way trail.
Getting there
To get to the South West Coast Path: Barnstaple to Westward Ho! trailhead from the Barnstaple rail station, head southwest for 200ft and turn left onto Station Road, following it for 0.2mi before arriving at a roundabout. Take the third exit onto Sticklepath Terrace and follow it for 427ft, where you will reach the starting point of the walk at Long Bridge.

Popular with avid long-distance walkers, the South West Coast Path: Barnstaple to Westward Ho! is a fantastic walking route that features little in the way of elevation gain, but offers an amazing chance to view the stunning waterways that can be found in Devon. Setting out from the trailhead at Long Bridge in Barnstaple, you will make your way initially to the southwest before turning directly west to walk along the edge of the Taw Estuary. From here, you will enjoy some scenic views across the water, as you follow along the trail in the direction of the Bristol Channel. Passing through several charming villages and crossing over a few bridges, you will walk along the edge of the Torridge Estuary and travel around the edge of Northam Burrows Country Park before arriving at the end point of the walk in the village of Westward Ho!
