The walk from Galmpton Creek to Greenway Gardens is a beautifully scenic journey that will produce some lovely views across the water and the chance to visit an historic estate. While out on the trail, you will climb uphill along the banks of the River Dart and enjoy some wonderful views of the Devon countryside before circling around the extravagant grounds of Greenway House. Some portions of this route are affected by high tide, so be sure to look into tide times prior to setting out.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Galmpton Creek to Greenway Gardens Walk from Brixham, head west on New Road/A3022 for 2.1mi and turn left onto Greenway Road, following it for another 0.3mi. Continue straight on Stoke Gabriel Road for 0.3mi and turn left onto Kiln Road, following it for 0.2mi to arrive at the trailhead.

The Galmpton Creek to Greenway Gardens Walk is a popular Devon excursion for those walkers that enjoy local history and relaxing riverside settings. From the starting point on Kiln Road, follow the road to the southwest and pick up the footpath, following it past the cottages and along the water’s edge to reach Galmpton Mill. From here, you will continue climbing uphill while enjoying the beautiful views of the River Dart, eventually looping around the historic grounds and gardens of Greenway House. Take your time on this loop portion of the trail to appreciate the beauty of the place that Agatha Christie referred to as “the loveliest place in the world”. After making your way around the grounds, simply follow the trail back along the banks of the River Dart to return to the trailhead.
