The Campbell River Canyon View Trail is a 3.0mi lollipop hiking route in Elk Falls Provincial Park that skirts around the edge of the Campbell River for some impressive views of the rushing river below. While the trail is great for family-friendly exploring, there are some steep sections of stairs that could impede travellers. Try hiking this trail in the autumn, when you will have a chance to spot bears feeding on salmon along the river.

Campbell River Canyon View Trail Description

Hiking the Campbell River Canyon View Trail is a great way to explore some of the breathtaking terrain that can be found on Vancouver Island with the opportunity to spot some amazing wildlife along the edge of the rushing river. As mentioned above, completing this hike in the autumn will allow you the chance to safely view a pre-hibernation feeding frenzy as bears make their way to the river to feast on the plentiful salmon that can be found there. For this reason, it is also a popular area for fishermen looking to capitalize on the same opportunity.

Setting out from the trailhead, make your way east along the edge of the Campbell River and cross over to the eastern side. On this portion of the hike, you will make your way through an amazing stretch of forest with some breathtaking views of the river rushing below the canyon. Reaching the edge of the river on the western part of the trail, you will cross over a swaying suspension bridge that spans the river before making your way along the west back to return to the trailhead where you began.
