Rainbow Falls Description

Rainbow Falls is an exciting adventure along the curves of Fountain Creek that opens to the mesmerizing cascades that surge beneath the Interstate. Accessible, quick, and impressively scenic, this trek attracts adventurers of all sorts! Catering to hikers of all skill levels, this trail is heavily trafficked, so don’t be surprised if you must share the trail. Note there are specific time slots available to visit the falls: April-May: Saturdays & Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM; June, July, and August: Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays & Mondays from 10 AM to 4 PM; September-October: Saturdays & Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM. Though there is no fee required to explore the falls, there is a donation box that hikers are encouraged to contribute to, which helps with the area’s upkeep.

Conveniently located near Manitou Springs’ city center, the Rainbow Falls are a popular weekend destination, so head out early to secure a parking spot! Recently restored, the paved path guides explorers along the running waters of Fountain Creek bounded by orange-colored cliffs before culminating at the Rainbow Falls. Getting its name from the then graffiti-decorated walls, the cliffs have been cleaned and restored in recent years. Now, the cascades provide a stunning natural scene, but the bridge remains painted, keeping some of the vibrant personality and history alive. So, if you have water shoes, wade into the pool and take a picture next to the impressive falls that flow beneath the interstate.

Heading to the falls during the allotted time slots, the Rainbow Falls departs from the parking lot and trailhead off Serpentine Drive. From here, track north along the Rainbow Falls Trail. As you walk, you will be in the company of other like-minded explorers excited to enjoy the sights of the cascading falls. Hiking on the paved orange-hued path, you will be lulled into a state of relaxation by the meditative sounds of the running waters. Soon you will reach Rainbow Falls, which pour beneath the historic Rainbow Bridge. Revel in the scenery of the hypnotizing waterfall bounded by looming cliffs and shaded by the graffiti-decorated bridge. Explore the falls and the shores of Fountain Creek before beginning your return. Retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead when you are ready.
