Your exciting adventure along the Loud’s Cabin Hike begins at the Gold Camp Trailhead. From here, track southwest along the wide, dirt Gold Camp Road. Soon after your departure from the trailhead, you will confront an intersection. Cross through a metal gate, and track the path signposted for #622. This route will guide you into the North Cheyenne Creek Canyon, bounded by looming granite cliffs lined with verdant pines. Crossing over the seven bridges along the Seven Bridges Trail, the sounds of the babbling creek will relax you.

As you wander through the corridor, you will revel in the vistas of the encompassing mountains, including Kineo Mountain in the north and Almagre Mountain in the west. Bask in the beauty of the terrain, and you will eventually encounter another junction. Veery right, tracking the Seven Bridges North Spur Trail through an aspen grove that will lead you through a sea of golden foliage in the autumn. At the next intersection, hook onto the Loud’s Cabin Trail, heading north, crossing the footbridge over Bear Creek.

Heading north, you will trek through a meadow before entering a restoration area—make sure to maintain on the worn path. Soon you will reach the remains of Loud’s Cabin. Explore the grounds littered with logs and the impressive stone chimney that remains standing. Enjoy the sights of the forested valleys below and the mountainous landscape that stretches for miles. When you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.

Loud’s Cabin

Loud’s Cabin is a historical monument that sits on the southern slope of Mount Garfield. Loud’s Cabin, otherwise known as Chipmunk Lodge, was built in 1902 by Colorado College Professor by the name of Frank Herbert Loud. With several small buildings erected in the area by Mr. Loud, the Chipmunk Lodge is the last remaining accessible structure to the public. An 8ft stone chimney stands amongst topple logs that make for an exciting sight to end a hike.
