Gray Back Peak Trail Description

The Gray Back Peak Trail is a unique adventure that reveals the diversity of Colorado’s typographies. In the west, you will be granted views of the mountains that stretch for as far as the eye can see, and in the east, panoramas of the plains. Revealing the stark contrast between the landscapes is a truly mesmerizing sight. Though the views from the summit are breathtaking, the lush forestlands up to the peak are just as stunning. Note sections of the route are loose gravel, so wear sturdy footwear, and in the winter, strap on some microspikes!

Embark on your adventure along the Gray Back Peak Trail from the trailhead off Forest Road 371. From here, head south along the Gray Back Peak Trail. This path will climb gradually from the trailhead all the way to the peak. Enjoy the sights of the towering pines as you ascend the rocky terrain. Sections of the path pass through exposed terrain, warranting epic views, so make sure to stop and revel in the scenery.

Eventually, you will summit Gray Back Peak. From here you will be rewarded with views of the mountainous landscape in the west and the plains in the east. Note the panoramas may be clouded with the verdant pines, but there are enough tree breaks to grant awe-inspiring views and photo opportunities. Admire the panorama, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
