The Captain Jack’s Peak Trail is an epic adventure. Head out into the fresh air and disengage from the real world as you venture this tranquil path. Traveling through mixed-pine forests lined with impressive outcroppings, the culmination of this trail is at the summit of Captain Jack’s Peak. From here, hikers will be granted awe-inspiring vistas of Colorado’s diverse topographies, including the lush woodlands, craggy peaks, and expansive plains. Note the parking lot at the trailhead fills up fast, so make sure to arrive early!

Embark on your adventure along the Captain Jack’s Peak Trail from the High Drive Trailhead. From here, head northeast along the High Drive Trail. This path will guide you into the woodlands through the wide dirt route. Eventually, you will encounter an intersection, veer left here, and you will be diverted onto the Captain Jack’s Trail. This path will lead you west, around the ridge of Mount Buckhorn. At the next junction, keep straight along the Upper Captain Jack’s Trail 667. Soon after you depart from the intersection, you will pass a more primitive trail on your right. Take this route northeast up to the summit of Captain Jack’s Peak.

From the exposed peak, you will be granted expansive views. Notice sights of the Garden of Gods in the north, the cityscape and plains in the east, and the Front Range foothills in the west. Admire the diverse vistas and when you are ready, retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
