The Sulphur Creek Trail is a one-way hiking route that begins at the Sulphur Creek trail and ends at the Capitol Reef National Park Visitors Center on highway 24. Along the way, this trail whisks you past three beautiful waterfalls and through cool, deep pools. Be prepared, depending on the season, you will likely get your feet wet as you splash your way along the creek bed that marks your route.
Getting there
This trail begins across the road from the Chimney Rock Loop Trailhead that is located on the north side of highway 24, 3.0mi west of the Capitol Reef Visitors Center.

Sulphur Creek Trail Description
The Sulphur Creek Trail is one of the best hikes in Capitol Reef National Park. Depending on the season, you have to get your feet wet along this route so wear shoes that grip and drain. Do not wear flip-flops; you will regret it. Close-toed hiking sandals with socks to block out gravel are effective (and highly fashionable) footwear for this hike; grippy hikers that are breathable and drain well will also work. We strongly recommend bringing along hiking poles or a walking stick to help with stability while you wade in the water. This area can be very dangerous in the event of a flash flood, do not attempt this hike if there is rain on the horizon and turn back if you see clouds building.
All that being said, this hike can be pretty spectacular and a whole lot of fun. If the water levels are right, the Sulphur Creek trail will lead you past three beautiful waterfalls as you make your way along the creek. Embrace the water, and enjoy your time cooling off and playing around in this gorgeous little section of Capitol Reef National Park.
From the Chimney Rock Trailhead, cross over the road and follow the path south down to Sulphur Creek. Once you hit the creek, take a left to follow the water eastward. Continue along the creek until you emerge at the Capitol Reef Visitors Center.
This hike can also be done as an out-and-back route by following the Sulphur Creek Waterfall Trail that begins and ends at the Visitor Center.
