Alcove Spring Trail Description
The Alcove Spring Trail is a gorgeous, long hike in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands. This hike has a steep descent and ascent so arrive prepared with proper footwear and hiking poles if you need the support. This is a long hike in the desert where dehydration and heat exhaustion are real risks, so make sure to wear good sun protection and pack along lots of water and salty snacks to replenish your electrolytes along the way. The challenging nature of this hike means that it sees little traffic from Canyonlands tourists. If you are up for the challenge, you might just be lucky enough to have this trail all to yourself out there. Be sure to bring along a camera and enjoy the peace and beauty that the Utah desert has to offer.
From the Alcove Spring Trailhead, follow the path down into the wash and follow the trail as it winds northward.
The Alcove Spring trail ends when it meets up with the Taylor Canyon 4×4 trail. At this point, you can turn around and head back to the trailhead or you can take a quick hike down the Zeus and Moses Trail to see the two impressive sandstone spires that give that route its name.
