The Balmoral Castle Walk is a wonderful family-friendly adventure in Cairngorms National Park that will take you around the grounds of Queen Elizabeth II’s Scottish estate. While out walking the trail, you will follow closely along the banks of the River Dee, before looping around Balmoral Castle to inspect its beautiful architecture. Walkers should take note that dogs are permitted at Balmoral Castle; however, they must be kept on a lead at all times.

Whether you are a big fan of Queen Elizabeth II or simply want to take a relaxing stroll by the river’s edge, the Balmoral Castle Walk is a fantastic excursion that the entire family can enjoy. Make sure to book your tickets in advance, as Balmoral Castle can become quite busy with visitors.
Setting out from the ticket office, you will head to the northwest for a short distance before breaking off to the right, where you will take a relaxing stroll along the banks of the River Dee. Here, you will meander through the atmospheric forest, until you pass by the impressive site of the castle itself.
After viewing the beautiful architecture of Queen Elizabeth II’s Scottish castle, you will continue through the grounds and past the garden cottage, before working through another stretch of forest. Here, you will make the final leg of the walk back to the trailhead where you began.
