You’ll quickly understand what all the fuss around Colorado’s high country is about on the Independence and Lost Man Lakes Hike. This stunning adventure will guide explorers through the vibrant alpine tundra that is often dotted with unbothered mountain goats on their way to the lakes. Exhibiting epic mountain views the entirety of the way, there is no shortage of incredible scenery along this trek.

Embark on your excursion along the Independence and Lost Man Lakes Trail from the Lost Man Loop Trailhead. From here, track the Lost Man Loop Trail northeast along the Roaring Fork River. Keep right at the first intersection, and right again at the next. Let the gorgeous alpine views motivate you as you climb up to the lakes. You will reach the shores of Independence Lake first, where you can revel in the shimmering waters flanked by rugged cliffs, before continuing on with your hike.

Soon after leaving Independence Lake, you will meet Lost Man Lake. Dip your tired feet in the inviting waters and admire the picturesque panorama. Take plenty of photos and, when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
