Port Alberni

Surrounded by the rugged mountain peaks of Vancouver Island’s interior, Port Alberni is a charming city located on the northeast tip of the Alberni Inlet, a saltwater inlet that opens up into the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean via Barkley Sound. Named for Don Pedro de Alberni, a Spanish officer in command of nearby Fort San Miguel from 1790-1792, the town is situated on the traditional lands of the Tseshaht and Hupacasath First Nations of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Tribal Council.

Due to its easy access to the water, Port Alberni has long served as a hub for the fishing industry; however, with tourism growing on Vancouver Island, the city has seen an increase in the amount of visitors coming into the region for other aspects of adventure travel.
