Golden
Nestled snugly within the Rocky Mountain Trench at the point where the Columbia and Kicking Horse rivers converge, Golden is a fantastic town for exploring some of the best landscapes that British Columbia has to offer. Surrounded by three mountain ranges and located in close proximity to five different national parks, this charming town has no shortage of amazing adventures to experience.
Originally known as McMillan’s Camp, the name of the settlement was changed to Golden City in 1884, after a neighbouring lumber camp had changed its name to Silver City. As one would guess from it’s remote location, the history of the town and its people is strongly tied to the forestry and railroad industries, with the latter eventually serving to drive tourism in the area. Ever since, Golden has been a home to adventurers keen on hiking, biking, paragliding, and skiing their way across the rugged, yet beautiful landscapes that can be found here.
