Timber Gap Trail Description

Explore the High Sierra along this amazing alpine adventure. Get a wonderful workout in, and let the amazing scenery keep you motivated along the way. Traveling to such high altitudes, we encourage hikers to head out in the early morning to mitigate the chances of getting caught in an afternoon storm. Additionally, we encourage you to acclimatize to the area’s elevation prior to setting out. Don’t forget to dress in layers as insurance against changing conditions. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Setting out from the Sawtooth Trailhead, the Timber Gap Hike follows the Sawtooth Pass Trail through a lush meadow. Soon after your departure from the trailhead, you will reach an intersection, veer left here, and you will be diverted onto the Timber Gap Trail. This wonderful route will weave between dense tree stands and exposed meadows. Eventually, you will reach the Timber Gap—revel in the impressive views of the High Sierra, then begin your descent into the forested valley. Wander down into the canyon along the Timber Gap Creek.

You will ultimately reach your adventure’s end at Cliff Creek. Admire the beautiful alpine scenery and when you are rested and rehydrated, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
