Garfield Grove Trail Description

Get off the beaten path and discover the beauty of the untouched backcountry along this route. This beautiful trek climbs through lush meadows, dense forestlands, and over meandering streams before reaching the lovely old-growth grove. Note the initial segment of the path is exposed to the elements, so pack plenty of water and wear SPF. We also encourage you to download the trail GPS prior to your departure. Additionally, the road to the trailhead is rough and rugged, so a vehicle with high ground clearance and a 4-wheel drive is recommended. Entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Embark on your adventure along the Garfield Grove Hike from the trailhead in the campground. Following the South Fork Kaweah Trail, you will be guided southeast into the wilds. Explore the pockets of forest and open meadows in the initial stage of your hike. As you climb, you will be granted views of the encompassing peaks, including Homer’s Nose in the north. The further you progress into the wilderness, the density of sequoias will increase. You will likely notice several looming trees adorned with burn scars from a previous wildfire.

Eventually, you will enter Garfield Grove. Admire the grandeur and beauty of the amazing sequoias and have a picnic beneath their shelter. Retrace your steps back to the trailhead when you are ready to head back.
