Dead Giant Loop Trail Description

Hiking this trail makes for a wonderful experience. This route through Grant Grove exhibits the best of what the area has to offer. Come face to face with the giant sequoias that so famously occupy the area and explore the native flora and fauna. Though the grove itself is a popular destination, the Dead Giant Loop is less traveled and fairly tranquil outside of rush hour. Though the grove is open and enchanting year-round, chained tires may be needed to access the trailhead in the winter season. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

Setting out from the sunset trailhead, the Dead Giant Loop Trail follows the Sunset Trail west to an intersection. Here, turn right onto the North Grove Trail, which will redirect you north through the stands of sequoias interspersed with smaller, but equally as important conifers. Rerouting south, you will ultimately reconnect with the Sunset Trail heading southwest over a stream before merging onto the Dead Giant Loop Trail. Take the rightmost branch of the loop, admiring the grandeur of the sequoias before heading out to the Sequoia Lake Overlook.

Appreciate the beautiful view of the charming lake, then continue around the loop. After completing the circuit, head back over the creek via the Sunset Trail, and trace this trail all the way back to the trailhead.
