Lookout Mountain via Trail 308 Description
This guide follows Trail 308 to the top of Lookout Mountain, one of the many peaks of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. This is a perfect way to earn a viewpoint right within the city. The sprawling views of the city and its mountains are great, and they won’t take very long to reach. Since this route starts and ends in Lookout Mountain Park, you have the option to extend your adventures and spend some time enjoying the park before or after your hike.
This route begins from the park. Follow Trail 308 as it heads northwest towards the mountain. At the T-intersection, go right. The trail makes a half-moon approach to the summit trail, following the base of the mountain. Just after you cross the Lookout Mountain Parking Access Road, bear left onto the summit trail.
Hike through the switchbacks, staying right at the fork and then left onto Trail 150, which leads you to the top. Take in the lovely view before your descent, which follows the same route.
