Cliff Lake via Dinkey Lakes Trail Description
While this hike boats incredible panoramas, it demands some stamina and preparation. Traveling deep into the wilderness and to high elevations, this trek is sure to leave you breathless—whether it be from the altitude or views—so make sure to pack plenty of water! Additionally, we suggest dressing in layers as the conditions so often turn on a dime at high altitudes. As much of the terrain is uneven and rocky, we also encourage you to wear supportive footwear! Note the road to the trailhead is rough and rugged, so a vehicle with high ground clearance and 4-wheel drive.
Setting out from the trailhead, track the Dinkey Lake Trail north, over a small snowmelt stream that boasts a charming cascade in the spring. Continue hiking northeast through the alpine terrain, over several streams, and through the wildflower-laden meadowlands. Eventually, you will pass First Dinkey Lake, Second Dinkey Lake, and Rock Lake. From here, the path will begin to gradually descend down to Cliff Lake.
As the name hints, Cliff Lake is bounded by some impressive granite cliffs. Revel in the sights of the blue-hued waters and the bounding bluffs before beginning your return. Then, when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
