Graveyard Lakes Trail Description
The Graveyard Lakes Trail is an ideal adventure reserved for experienced hikers. Demanding stamina and dedication, this route travels over rugged and technical terrain—so make sure you’re wearing sturdy footwear! Additionally, we recommend dressing in layers as the ever-changing terrain warrants ever-changing conditions. Lastly, as this is a long, technical trek, if you are hoping to tackle this trail in a day, then make sure to head out early!
Setting out from the trailhead, the Graveyard Lakes Trail follows the High Sierra Packs Station Trail east. This path will guide you through the forestlands and along the shoreline of Lake Thomas A. Edison. Soon you will reach an intersection with the Goodale Pass Trail. Keep left here, and this route will gradually climb through the woodlands and up granite bluffs. At the next junction, keep right, and you will be guided through meadowlands before ascending the Cold Creek Valley.
Eventually, you will encounter another trail fork. Veer left, and you will be diverted onto the Graveyard Lakes Trail. Follow this route northwest to the shimmering alpine lakes. Marvel in the beauty of the lakes mirroring the flanking Sierra Nevada peaks. When you are ready retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
