The Peanut Lake Lower Loop is a fun intermediate length hike from Crested Butte that offers beautiful views of Peanut Lake and the surrounding mountains. While out walking the trail, you will traverse the valley floor alongside the Slate River, taking in the picturesque views as you pass by Peanut Lake and gaze out upon Snodgrass Mountain. This is a great hike if you are looking for a longer route that isn’t too difficult to complete.
Getting there
The trailhead for the Peanut Lake Lower Loop can be found along Butte Avenue in Crested Butte, just 0.1mi west of Three Ladies Park.

Peanut Lake Lower Loop Description
If you are wanting to set out on a fun day hike without straying too far from town, the Peanut Lake Lower Loop in Crested Butte will provide hours of fun and wonderfully scenic views of the surrounding Colorado wilderness.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the northwest along a footpath that runs parallel to Peanut Lake Road, enjoying the stunning views of Crested Butte to the southeast, Snodgrass Mountain to the northeast, and the slopes of Mount Emmons on your left.
After passing by the scenic shores of Peanut Lake on your right, you will continue on along the valley floor to the northwest, before climbing uphill into the foothills of Mount Emmons. After entering into the cover of the forest near the banks of the Slate River, you will arrive at the northwest terminus of the route. Following the winding riverbank to the southeast, you will once again make your way through the valley and pass by Peanut Lake on the return leg back into the trailhead where you began.
