AB Young Trail Description
AB Young Trail is a great hike, leading you up Oak Creek Canyon for a wonderful view over the sheer canyon, the lush trees, and the changing landscape that approaches Sedona. This is a uniquely beautiful part of the world and this trail is a good way to appreciate it.
This route requires hiking through loose rock and overgrown brush, so good boots and long pants are recommended. Additionally, you’ll be out in the sun for a lot of the hike, so take precautions if it’s hot out: lots of water, a hat, and sunscreen will help.
The hike begins near the Bootlegger Picnic Area. AB Young Trail heads up the canyon wall, switchbacking through rocky terrain. You’ll be in the switchbacks for a long time, so settle in. After a short traverse and two last switchbacks, you’ll head east along the edge of the canyon wall to the top of East Pocket Knob. Rest up while you enjoy the views. From here, you’ll retrace your steps back down.
