Boynton Vista Trail Description
Want to feel the energy of one of Sedona’s famed vortexes? Take the Boynton Vista Trail near Boynton Canyon, a box canyon perched in the mountains above Sedona. This trail takes you to a vortex site that’s said to be Sedona’s strongest on an easy route. It’s an area of outstanding natural beauty and a great hike to add to your list if you’re exploring Sedona.
This route is suitable for all skill levels and ages. If you choose to explore the canyon as well, there are some areas on that trail that are a bit more challenging, but it’s still suitable for most.
Begin from the trailhead. You’ll cross the Boynton Canyon Creek and turn left. Hike alongside the Boynton Canyon Creek for a short distance and then take a right where the trail splits.
Make a modest climb up to the vista. Admire the twisted trunks of juniper trees and the Kachina Woman and Warrior rocks above you, which some hikers like to meditate under.
At the vista site, settle in to experience the view. The vortex sites are said to have magnificent energy by some, but others might not feel much at all. Whether you do or not, take in the view of this most spectacular desert landscape.
When you’re ready, head back down from the vista site. Take a left at the first junction, hike along the creek bed, and then take a right to cross the creek bed and return to the trailhead.
If you want to explore Boynton Canyon, take a right at the first junction and wander as far as you like. The popular Subway Cave is further up this trail. If you’re going further, it’s wise to make sure you’ve got enough water, especially if you’re hiking in the heat. It’s a much longer hike than the vista trail.
