The Lairig Ghru Walk is a long but laidback excursion in Cairngorms National Park that will expose you to the natural beauty of the forests within the region. While out walking the trail, you will make your way across a vast expanse of woodland landscape to reach the Rothiemurchus Lodge at the base of the mountains, before making the return along the banks of Druie. This is an excellent walking route if you enjoy exploring lush woodland landscapes.
Getting there
The trailhead for the Lairig Ghru Walk can be found at the Rothiemurchus Camp and Caravan Site, just southeast of Aviemore.

Lairig Ghru Walk Description
For those adventurers who prefer to eschew dramatic mountain tops for the quiet tranquility of the forest, the Lairig Ghru Walk will be the perfect walking route. In addition to meandering underneath the shady canopy of the forest, you will likely also be able to spot various wildlife species, making for a fun day of being surrounded by nature.
Setting out from the trailhead at the Rothiemurchus Camp and Caravan Site, you will head to the southeast and enter into the dense cover of the forest, following along the winding banks of Druie as you take in the natural beauty of your woodland surroundings. Eventually, you will arrive at the Rothiemurchus Lodge, which is situated at the base of several nearby mountains.
From here, you will head south along the slopes of Castle Hill to explore a small slice of the mountainous terrain, before turning to the northwest to re-enter the forest. Here, you will once again follow along the rushing waters of Druie, as you cut across the woodland landscape on the return to the trailhead where you began.
