Horncliffe to Norham Circular Walk Description

If you are hoping to take a scenic walk in Northumberland that will showcase the natural beauty of the region and allow you to visit an interesting historical site that played an important role in several conflicts between the English and the Scots, then the Horncliffe to Norham Circular Walk will be the perfect route for you.

Setting out from the trailhead in the heart of Horncliffe, you will follow along the banks of the River Tweed to the southwest, enjoying the views across the waterway that forms part of the border between England and Scotland. Here, you will traverse a mixture of woodland and open fields that offer a relaxing setting to walk through.

Eventually, you will arrive at the site of Norham Castle, which dates back to the 12th Century and was critical in the defence of Northern England from Scottish invaders. After exploring the area surrounding the castle, you will make your way east along the road for a short distance, before cutting across the open farmland to the northeast to return to Horncliffe. Here, you will make your way back through the village towards the trailhead, where you can stop off at the Fishers Arms for a quick post-walk pint before heading home.
