Twin Tanks Hike Description
A good portion of the Twin Tanks Hike is not along designated Joshua Tree National Park trails, and so navigation can be difficult. We recommend that you bring navigational aids to help you along your journey. In addition to the navigational issues, there is not much shelter from the sun throughout the Twin Tanks Hike. Make sure you bring enough water, put on lots of sunscreen, and wear a good hat!
Having located the trailhead, make your way northwest. You will soon arrive at a stream that could be dry, depending on the time of year. Cross the stream and continue northwest. After a few hundred feet, the route veers sharply to the west, and begins to incline in elevation slightly.
You will continue on your western bearing until you reach a large hill. Just before the hill, the route turns sharply to the southeast, where it begins to steadily decline in elevation. The Twin Tanks Hike will then lead you towards Pinto Basin Road, and the parking lot, where your car will be waiting for you.
