The Eagle Stone Circular is a great walking route that is packed full of scenic views and interesting bits of history. While out on the trail, you will make your way along the escarpment known as Birchen Edge, taking in the amazing views overlooking the Derbyshire countryside. As you walk the hillside, you will also be able to visit the location of both the Nelson and Wellington monuments, dedicated to their respective victories at Trafalgar and Waterloo.
Getting there
To get to the car park for the Eagle Stone Circular from Baslow, make your way southeast for 0.6mi along Church Lane and take the second exit at the roundabout onto the A619. Turn left after 1.1mi onto B6050 and you will find the car park on the left in 250ft.

Eagle Stone Circular Trail Description
Walking the Eagle Stone Circular is a fantastic outdoor adventure that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of walkers due to the amazing views overlooking the surrounding hills of the Peak District and the historic monuments that are dotted along the trail. Setting out from the car park next to the Robin Hood Inn, the trail heads north along Birchen Edge, offering some amazing views across the Derwent Valley from atop the escarpment. From here, you will pass by the monument dedicated to Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar before making your way west towards Eagle Stone. Once there, you can explore the terrain around the unique rock formation, where you will find the monument dedicated to Wellington’s victory at Waterloo. After taking in the sights, make your way down the hillside and along the foot of Gardom’s Edge before arriving back at the pub where you began.
